The apartment is within easy walking distance of the very pretty alpine village centre where there are the usual shopping facilities, and also some very good restaurants, serving typical French cuisine and Savoyard specialities. There are also cinemas, a swimming pool, tennis courts, pony-trekking centres and mountain biking centres.

The village has a children's centre which caters for children of all ages. Not far away near Evian is a wonderful Aqua Parc resort with Jungle Land, Cap'tain Kids and Paradise Land and Salt Mines to visit at Bex.

There is a weekly street market on Wednesdays.

Nearby is the ancient abbey of Abondance and a bit further afield there is a white water rafting centre. Also within easy reach is the spa town of Évian on the Lake of Geneva. This is a major holiday centre with water sports on the lake and also one of France's premier casinos.

For those who would like to go summer ski-ing, this can be found on the glaciers at Saas Fee and Les Diablerets. If conditions are right, the Tourist Office in Châtel organises trips there.

Châtel is on the French/Swiss border and the nearest Swiss village – Morgins – is only a couple of miles away. The major Swiss resort of Montreux is not far either.

For those who are really energetic, it is not far to Chamonix from where Mont Blanc can be climbed (but only by experts!).
